announcing the birth of...water quidditch

so, i'm kind of embarrassed to post this, but at the same time, it was honestly so much fun it merits a xanga post.  xanga-worthy, if you will.  and i'm sure at least a couple of you will.

anyway, my roomate and i , along with a couple female friends of ours, created a game that will probably go down in history, for what i'm not quite sure yet.  we call it Water Quidditch.  a pool is necessary for this game , as is a penny and 2 beach balls.  the official scoring procedures are as follows.  one offensive team of 2 hides the penny anywhere they so choose within the confines of the pool.  after it is hidden the game then begins.  they take the two balls and try to score at the deep end of the pool.  in our groundbreaking match the goal was to  simply throw the ball and hit a storage box sitting right outside the pool.  as for the defensive team, one player actsas goalie, trying to deflect the skillfully directed balls and prevent scoring, while the other defensive player seeks out the hidden penny.  we call him the seeker.  the object is for the defensive team to find the penny as quickly as possible, yell "quidditch!" and put an end to the round, thus putting an end to the offensive team's attempts to score.  obviously the object of the game for the offensive team is to be really awesome at hiding the penny so as to increase their chances of being able to score while the seeker is out seeking the penny.

i must admit that most of the details of the game were devised by my roomate, Ipp.  however we're all really proud to be the collective creators of the world's first game of Water Quidditch.

don't act like you're not impressed.

i'm back.....again........for now.

hey friends!  (all 3 of you who still randomly check this thing.)  i think i'm going to try to keep this thing updated with my life happenings, since this is the only way most of you will have contact with me for a long time, if not forever.  ok, so anyway.....

on wednesday, august 16, i began my journey across the nation to find my new home.  my dad joined me in this trek.  the first night we stayed in Denver.  we drove almost 16 hours that day.

second day we awoke early and began driving again.  this was the most beautiful part of the drive, going through the mountains of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, bringing us to Vegas!  Vegas is definitely a place i want to visit again.  we stayed at the Freemont, which sounds really cool, and kinda is, but unfortunately it's one of the older establishments in Vegas, located in the white trash district.  the likes of Ceasar's Palace, Paris, Bellagio, Excalibur, Mirage, Riviera, Luxor, etc. have all set up camp in a nearby section of town known as Las Vegas Boulevard, which we walked up and down.  you may remember the Bellagio from Ocean's 11.  it's actually cooler than it looks on the movie, and the water fountain show out front is pretty cool.

anyway, the final day of our trip was spent making the small jump from Vegas to Pasadena, California.  this is my new home.

the weather is very warm, but unlike the midwest, the humidity is extremely low here, making higher temperatures more bearable.  i finally got to meet my roomate Jason Ippolito, who is a very cool chap from Illinois.  (for future reference, we call him "Ipp.")   my apartment is actually much bigger than i pictured it being.  it will take some time for us to be able to get the furniture and trappings needed to live comfortably and make this place look like a home.

my dad is back in Indiana.  so this is it.  i'm here and i'm not going anywhere soon.  Pasadena really is my new home.  weird.

just so you know...

i will be taking off for a fun week in california in a little over an hour.  haven't slept yet tonight, so my stomach is getting that weird, half-sick, all-nighter feeling.  anyway, the purpose of this post is not to really say much at all other than to just let you know i probably won't be online for the next week, so if you wanna get a hold of me, gimme a call.

beginning of the end

tomorrow begins my move from cedarville to wherever i end up this summer.  my parents are coming with a van from my uncle's nursery to pick up as much stuff as they can fit in the van.  i have accumulated quite an assortment of worldy possessions, which is not hard to do when you work for the Gap corporation and Pottery Barn at the same time.  of course my closet is bursting at the seams, and i even have jackets and coats hanging from my bed.  in addition to the clothes is the furniture: nesting tables, a large leaning studio shelf, a new full-sized keyboard, and an assortment of storage containers.  and let's not forget about the kitchen, with its plethora of dishes, utensils, and various and assundry accoutrements.  Pottery Barn has been especially good to me, but not to my checking account.

it will be my last move from cedarville.  it's hard to believe that i've been here for 5 years.  i havecn't actually lived at home since summer 2004.  i may end up there later on this summer, and that's kinda scary.  i like to go home, but i'm always glad to come back to my own place where there are no kids arguing, no parents checking to see if i washed behind my ears, etc.  i like having my own space.  but having my own space costs money, and that's something that Gap isn't giving out much of right now.

i've actually felt that in the past year cedarville has become my town.  it's home to me now.  i know the townies, i've hung out with paul and marilyn ware, i know and have hung out with the high schoolers.  it's been great.  and i'm going to miss all of it.

i know that everyone is going through the same thing right now, especially seniors (graduating is horrible!), but i am honestly going to miss my friends like crazy.  yeah, i'll make friends at grad school, and i'll have a really great time with them.  but i don't know if there will ever be another Posse.  and it makes me especially sad to think that there will probably never be another Cottage and family.  Elaine, Justin, Teresa, and Nate Keller are my heros.  i love them the rest of the cottage family like none other.  you've been a Godsend.

if you're reading this, you're probably one of my friends and someone i love dearly.  i will miss you and i thank you for all you've added to my life.  i hope i get the chance to tell you so before i actually head out, which will not be for another week and a half.  (let me just take this opportunity to encourage people to not be facebook haters.  it's really the best way to locate and keep in touch with friends.  take for instance Dan Prokop...he doesn't have facebook, and because of that it will be hard for me to keep in touch with him, which i really want to do.  the same goes for whoever else is a friend of mine and is boycotting the online wonder that is facebook.  but if you're on xnaga, you probably have facebook, so that was basically just a needless ranting.)

i have so many boxes to pack.  i'm pretty much hating life right now.

cali?

i've never really been one to announce my accomplishments, even to friends.  it stems from many issues, but it's partially that i don't ever want to do anything that would make people think i'm being prideful.  however, i would like to take this opportunity to make an announcement:

I got accepted to FULLER!

i am on the verge of calling and accepting their invitation to go study with them, but just haven't gotten up the courage to do so yet.  did i mention that this is Pasadena, CA, which is a sort of suburb of LA.  So-Cal, if you will.  and i'm pretty sure i will.  it's just not official as of tonight.  but yeah, there you have it.  i may have the next 5 years of my life mapped out.  exciting, and freaking scary at the same time.

also of possible interest, i got accepted to University of Southern Indiana.  for obvious reasons, this option is not being seriously considered at this time.
